Wine Information:
Pale gold with green tinges and small bubbles. Flowers and blackberries on the nose with hints of citrus, nuts and apricots. Precise mouth is driven by chalk and mineral; balanced with nuts and fresh-baked fruits.
The "VP" here stands for "Vieillisement Prolonge" ("prolonged aging"), which reflects its meaning in the composition of the wine: 50% from the 1998 vintage, with an assortment of reserve wines from all the way back to 1995.
The dosage here is less than 2 grams per liter, making it an extra-brut. Seven years on the yeasts yields such harmony of bubbles and wine, so much length, complexity and texture that the dosage of sugar can be lowered (at disgorgement time) to a bare minimum, and the result will be a vinous, pure Champagne that nonetheless avoids seeming overly dry.
