Wine Information:
Barrique-aged Nebbiolo/Barbera blend “Arte” was the original “super-Piedmont” wine; Marc de Grazia and Clerico devised this ground-breaking blend together in 1983.
Blend: Nebbiolo - 90%
Barbera - 10%
Vineyard age (year of planting):
Barbera: 1965
Nebbiolo: 1985 (Nebbiolo grapes are from the Ginestra, Pajana, Bussia, Mosconi and Manzoni vineyards in the township of Monforte).
Soil type: Tufa and clayey marl
Exposure: South, Southwest
Vinification and ageing: Maceration on the skins in steel for 10-12 days for Nebbiolo grapes and for 10-14 days for Barbera grapes. Aged in new French-oak barriques for 16-18 months.
Colour: Intense ruby red
Nose: Ample, ethereal, complex, black cherries, plum, liquorice
Flavour: Rich, full-bodied, soft, quite fresh, velvety and ripe tannins, long finish
Serving suggestions: Elaborate meat dishes, aged cheeses
