| REVIEW |
Inky red. The uncommonly deep and complex nose displays seductive floral aromas along with balsamic black cherry, smoke, quinine and sweet spices. Plush and silky but also impressively focused, with highly concentrated flavors of black cherry, sweet pipe tobacco, ink, grilled meat, minerals and black pepper also showing impressive depth and purity. As sweet and exotic as this is, it's built to age and should do so effortlessly. The best Bue Apis ever, and considerably better than the very good 2001, which had been the best vintage up until now. From an almost 200-year-old vineyard located about 3,300 feet above sea level, this is one of the top dozen Italian red wines released this year. But there are just a few barrels for the world.
