Chateau La Coudraie   Bordeaux, France

Catherine and Jean-Marc Jolivet

The château is located in the rolling slopes of Entre-deux-Mers, between the Gironde and Dordogne rivers.  Catherine and Jean-Marc Jolivet, who took over the estate in the early '80s, and their 63ha property face a difficult challenge in their pursuit of artisanal wines given the enormous pressures in Bordeaux to sell maximum quantities at a low price.  Against the odds, they remain dedicated to creating quality rather than industrial wine despite the higher costs associated with boutique wine-making. All aspects of production, including the bottling, are done on-site in order to ensure quality while keeping costs down. Additionally, they’ve increased the foliage and density in the vineyards to create more concentrated grapes.
