Nashwauk   ,

Nashwauk started out because Reid Bosward adheres to the ‘better not bigger’ idea at Kaesler. So what he did when his itch for a new project overwhelmed him was go out in search of superior vineyards to purchase and create a new line.  Nashwauk is just that and the superior vineyards were in the Seaview Hills sub-region of McLaren Vale.  Setting up in the hills of the Onkaparinga Ridge, these vineyards feel the cool breezes from the Gulf of St. Vincent as they sit atop a rugged landscape of limestone, blue granite and that red McLaren clay.  The 50 acre plot consists of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and the regional newcomer, Tempranillo.  About 30 of the acres were planted to Grenache and Shiraz 40 years ago and the other 20 acres were planted about 20 years ago to Tempranillo, Cabernet and Shiraz.  Reid’s yields are kept low, they are hand tended and then they are subject to the award winning practices at Kaesler’s winery.  Reid has always been more about the fruit so aside from the ‘Wrecked’ and ‘Beacon’ he applies only seasoned oak to the wines.
