Dan Standish

Standish Wine Company had its beginning, in 1999, when Dan sourced some over the top Shiraz from a 96+ year-old vineyard that his parents owned in the Barossa and had a serious go at creating his own style.  After giving up a life in Bio-Chemistry he enveloped himself in the wine world at Muga in Rioja and then in the Barossa Valley at Torbreck before branching out on his own.  This tiny vineyard, cropped at miniscule yields of .5 tons per acre is organically grown in the typical sandy loam over clay and as compliment Dan utilizes a traditional, non-interventionist approach to his wines where gravity is an essential part of moving the wine from place to place. His basket press is a new take on an old principle, gentle as we go, and his open-top, cement fermenters and seasoned barrel regime allow for the purest expression of the Barossa to come out.  The ‘Relic’ pays tribute to the early beginnings of the northern Rhone as he ferments his ‘Old Vine’ Shiraz along with the skins of some choice Viognier creating nothing short of Barossan gold.
