From the makers of A to Z wines, comes Francis Tannahill, founded in 2001 by Cheryl Francis and Sam Tannahill. Committed to crafting fine wines from unique vineyard sites managed with biodynamic and organic methods, they fashion sweet and dry Gewürztraminer, Roussane, Pinot Noir and Syrah from vineyards located high in the Eola Hills of Yamhill County, Oregon and Washington.
Sam, formerly winemaker at Archery Summit with Gary Andrus during the years of 95 point scoring Pinots, has teamed with Cheryl, former winemaker at Chehalem, started the label with the idealogy to make Pinots that are very personal and reflect a different sensibility than the “blockbuster” Pinots they made in the past. They feel the industry encourages super-concentrated and extracted Pinots, however, Sam is trying for the ideal of balanced extraction with high concentration or as he calls it, “power without size.” |
