Castillo del Baron Murcia, Spain |

Monastrell, or Mourvedre as it is known in France, is famous as the principal grape in Bandol and Collioure, yet its origins are Spanish. The Yecla DO is located in Murcia, near the sun-soaked beaches of the Mediterranean. Like Bandol, the high altitudes (700 meters) mitigate the ripening effects of the sun with cool temperatures at night. In addition the region boasts excellent stony limestone soils. Castillo del Baron is a special Europvin selection from a leading Yecla producer. The Monastrell is an explosion of fresh, ripe red and black fruit, with a warm Mediterranean spicy/earthy twist. On the palate, the wine is soft and fruity, and very well-framed by crisp natural acidity. The finish is clean and harmonious. |
