The San Giusto estate, home to a ninth-century military fortress, is presently owned by the Martini di Cigala family, and is located on the Siena side of the Chianti appellation in the Gaiole zone. The soil is thin and the hillsides are steep, ultimately leading to Chianti Classico that exhibits the power of Brunello along with elegant austerity, firm structure and a lingering intense palate. Attention to quality is so stringent that in poor vintages, part of, or the entire production may be sold off in bulk. The cult wine “Percarlo” is a 100% Sangiovese barrique-aged wine produced in tiny quantities. Their Vin Santo is a benchmark wine, composed almost entirely of the superior Malvasia varietal and a little Trebbiano.
The San Giusto wines are perennial stars with Parker, Tanzer and the Wine Spectator as well, garnering only the highest accolades.
The San Giusto will be Certified Organic starting with the 2008 vintage.
