The Terry Theise Estate Selections 2013 Germany Vintage Report is In!

When 2013 works it gives wines of great relief and contrast; these are vivid wines. They’re almost never creamy, but they are sometimes quite silky. They can seem deliciously savage at times, like a raspy-voiced singer; it isn’t a “pretty” voice but still you love it. 2013s are high in acidity and stunningly high in extract; this is tactile and discernible, not a metaphor. That said, bottling will often subdue this component, not insofar as it exists but insofar as it can be tasted. At that point extract behaves as a buffer to acidity (and to sweetness if it is there) and confers a richness to the mid-palate.

The Skurnik Scrapbook

Highlights include the 2010 Barolo—a legend in the making by all accounts—as well as superb 2011 Barbaresco! You will find several new estates on here: Gianni Brunelli of Le Chiuse di Sotto joins the Marc de Grazia portfolio—these are sumptuously delicious and classically produced wines for the Sangiovesista in all of us! Two brand new estates from Alto Piemonte, the Fara of Francesca Castaldi and the Ghemmes of Tiziano Mazzoni round out our traditional Northern Piedmont selections very nicely, but it does not end there. New selections abound—from Cavallotto’s Chardonnay and Grignolino to Vallana’s Piemonte Barbera, this is a thrilling offer from cover to cover!

'Value" and "Cabernet Sauvignon" is no longer and oxymoron! Owens and Vaughn, a collaborative effort between two longtiime wine professionals long frustrated by the lack of quality wines on the market for less than $25, have spent untold hours scouring the hillsides and valleys of California's finest vineyards, sourcing only the highest quality grapes to produce and bottle wines under the Owens and Vaughn label. The goal of Owens and Vaughn is to produce wines that we, ourselves, are proud to serve to our most discerning guests on any occasion. The long, slow, cool ripening 2012 growing season has produced this thoroughly balanced, lushly textured Cabernet Sauvignon, with plenty of black fruits and soft, ripe tannins. Be among the first to STOCK UP on this incredible value Cabernet, we're sure it'll fly out the door!
